Delicious Videos – Raj & La Via Campesina

Hello, Hello!
My apologies for the six month hiatus :(.  I still have plenty of info, recipes and rants I want to share!…finding the time to write them down is another story.
As a quick post, I want to give you a taste of the great people/organizations who fight the good fight for food security and food sovereignty, and who deserve more attention.

1. Here is a video with writer and activist Raj Patel (link to his blog is on the right panel).  Also included in this video is an excerpt from the trailer for A Place at the Table (changed from Finding North after Sundance); I have embedded the full length trailer at the end of the post.

2. In the clip Raj mentions the food sovereignty movement La Via Campesina.  La Via Campesina is an international movement which brings together millions of peasants, small and medium-size farmers, landless people, women farmers, indigenous people, migrants and agricultural workers from around the world. Defending small-scale sustainable agriculture as a way to promote social justice and dignity, and strongly opposes corporate driven agriculture and transnational companies who they feel are the main culprits destroying people and nature.  Food sovereignty is defined as the "right" of people(s) to define their own food, agriculture, livestock and fisheries systems, in contrast to having food largely subject to international market forces.  Please click here if you want to know more about them.

3. Here is the full trailer for A Place At The Table, as promised.  “1 in 4 U.S. citizens are currently considered food insecure”, pretty darn disturbing considering the U.S. is one of the richest nations in the world.

I hope you enjoy these clips! See you soon!
